Mechanical Engineering

About Department
The department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2002 with a intake of 60 students in the UG program and has grown leaps and bounds ever since. The intake was increased to 120 students in the year 2010. The PG program in Thermal Engineering was started during the academic year 2009 and the PG program in Machine Design started during the academic year 2011.The present student population in this department is 400.

The department of Mechanical Engineering has state of the art laboratories which have excellent computing facilities and resources in terms of both Hardware and Software, department also has its own departmental library.

The department of Mechanical Engineering recognizes top scorers, sportsmen at regular intervals and helps them in achieving their target both in curricular and co-curricular activities, department has adopted project based learning techniques and the department also provides technical and soft skill training to students, so that it will be easier for them to crack competitive exams like GATE, IES and other civil service exams, it also organizes conferences, workshop and faculty development program periodically. This activity will greatly benefit the faculty and student to comprehend the essence of teaching and learning.

About the program
Mechanical Engineering is the discipline that applies the Engineering, Physics and Materials Science principles to Design, Analysis, Manufacture and maintenance of the Mechanical Systems. It is a core branch when compared to other Engineering disciplines. Mechanical Engineering is popular known as ever green or royal branch. The Mechanical Engineering field requires an understanding of the core areas including Machine Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Material Science, Structural Analysis and the development of Machinery Products. In addition to these core principles, Mechanical Engineers use tools such as Computer Aided Design (CAD), Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Product Life Cycle Management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, water crafts, robotics, medical devices, weapons etc.

Today Mechanical Engineers are pursuing development in advanced areas such as Composites, Mechatronics and Nanotechnology. The alumni have found their careers shaped in many technologically advanced fields of current market trends like Aerospace, Metallography, Advanced Material Science etc.,
