The department of English of The Oxford College of Science was started in the year 1994 for the purpose of teaching the General English and Additional English subjects prescribed for the B.Sc. course of Bangalore University. Since the year 2006, the English staff have also been teaching the Optional English papers for the B.A. students of The Oxford College of Arts.

The staff of the English department have taken keen interest in training students for intercollegiate competitions and the regular conduct of assembly in the college. Counselling in academic and emotional matters and involving in administrative work of the college are the other responsibilities of the department. The department is also conducting workshops along with Deccan Herald on topics like Creative thinking and Problem solving, Study Skills, Group Discussion for the degree students.

Over the years, the staff have obtained M.Phil and Ph.D degrees. Research pursuits, membership to professional bodies, participation as resource persons at National / International seminars and conferences, participation in various litaracy programmes are the other activities of the staff.

A recent addition to the department of English is the language lab, which is functioning full swing to hone the student’s communication skills.
