  Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam visit

Interaction of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of India with The Oxford Educational Institutions students on 29th August 2010

Topic: Birth of Creativity in a Difficult Situation

Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam visited The Oxford Educational Institutions on 29th August 2010 for an interaction with students and teachers. Dr Kalam gave the right impetus to his talk by naming it “Defeat the Problems and Succeed” and held forth on the Birth of Creativity in a difficult situation by telling students inspirational stories of courageous intellectuals like Mario Capeechi, Srinivasa Ramnujan and Sir C.V Raman. Science gives you brighter eyes to solve problems and challenges, convinced Dr Kalam and gave the students four tips for success.

The realization of Vision 2020 calls for bridging the rural urban divide, he opined and highlighted the steps students should take unfalteringly towards achieving the goal of a prosperous India. The students cheerfully invoked courage for embarking on a life of fulfillment.

In an interaction with students and teachers, Dr Kalam shed light on a gamut of doubts and issues ranging from challenges and opportunities on the threshold of higher education to the implications of space research on the common man.

Bridging the gap between the need for innovation and supply of the same, and the realizability of Vision 2020 were the queries that students posed to Dr Kalam. As more questioned appeared, the concerns expressed were the problems in the present system of education that stifle talent and innovation. Other concerns of students had to do with fewer and fewer students opting for basic sciences as there carrier, inadequate funding of research and development in India and the falling standards of engineering graduates.

Yet others wanted to know more about Dr Abdul Kalam. It was with great wisdom, patience and good cheer that Dr Kalam fielded the questions and ignited the young minds of The Oxford Institutions.
